My story

As a young child, I discovered a pair of scissors and the pure joy of cutting into old clothes. Not everyone was equally thrilled when I started taking the scissors to my own wardrobe, but the spark was lit: the fun and creativity were unlocked! I began creating my very first unique T-shirts and looked up YouTube videos to make simple skirts and tote bags.

As I grew older, that was no longer enough—I wanted to learn more. I discovered the sewing machine and started crafting tiny hammocks and accessories for my pet rats.

My hunger for knowledge kept growing. Wanting to deepen my craft, I took evening classes in garment construction. After a few years, I felt the urge for an even bigger challenge and decided to retrain professionally through the VDAB. During that program, I completed internships at Studio 100, JB Couture, and Magic Design—where I was eventually hired officially. My very first job as a seamstress! I learned so much there and remain incredibly grateful for that experience.

After working several other seamstress jobs, I knew it was time for the ultimate step: bringing my own vision to life. I took additional specialized courses, including fashion illustration and pattern drafting, and completed an entrepreneurial program to build my big dream into reality.

Sharing this dream with you today feels truly unbelievable. It has been a long journey, and it’s far from over. I am so curious to see where this path will lead us next.

Will you join me in dreaming?

Lots of love,

Gwendy

My Vision

At Magic Crate, everything revolves around unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. You will never find two identical treasures here. Because I work with upcycled textiles and fabrics saved from being forgotten, there are no mass quantities of any single material. This guarantees that every piece remains strictly exclusive.

Minimizing waste is at the core of what I do. I contribute to a cleaner world by using deadstock fabrics and hunting through local markets for unique textiles, vintage bedsheets, and materials that I can repurpose and give a fresh second life. Even smaller fabric scraps are transformed into gems you’ll find in the shop. The very smallest scraps? Those are used as filling for other creations. That way, almost zero waste remains.

Future Vision

Looking ahead, I dream of a new location for Magic Crate: a larger studio space where I can give my creative ideas room to grow and welcome you in person.

With this expansion, I want to make my business even greener. I plan to invest fully in renewable energy—such as solar panels and a heat pump boiler—to keep the studio’s ecological footprint as small as possible.

Additionally, I continue to refine the sustainability of my shipping process, developing packaging that is not only eco-friendly, but also delivers that authentic Magic Crate experience the moment you unbox your treasure.
